Stitching Software

Panorama Tools - basic tools for editing and viewing panoramic pictures, by Prof. Helmut Dersch.

There is a well-enineered Java viewer. Some tools are real pioneer work, some are experimental. Many other developers' work is based on these tools. Non-commercial.

Hugin - freeware, based on the Panorama Tools, by Pablo d'Angelo et al.

It's beeing improved steadily.

PTGui - an interactive user interface for the Panorama Tools, by New House Internet Services B. V.

A hight-quality, very versatile program with lots of options. It's able to stich multi-row and full-spherical panoramas. Starting with v.5.0, PtGui provides an automated mode for creating matching control points which can be combined with manual processing. As an alternative to Panorama Tools, native PTGui tools can be used, some of which are better or faster.

PT Assembler - another Panorama Tools frontend, by TawbaWare.

Can be run in automatic mode.
There are some similarities in all Panorama Tools frontends.

AutoStitch - stitching software from a UBC research project, by Matthew Brown.

An approach to stitch panoramas completely automatically. The machine behind it ("SIFT" algorithm) does automation very well. Unfortunately, there is no real user interface or documentation - it's a demo application.

Autopano - Automatic matching and stitching of images, by Kolor.

Autopano uses the highly efficient SIFT algorithm (see above).
Autopano comes as a free command line tool which can be plugged into PTGui, PtAssembler and Hugin, and as Autopano Pro, a shareware program with an easy, well-designed user interface. The quality of the resulting images varies a lot, depending much on the quality of the source images. Control points can't be edited manually.

Panorama Studio - stitcher for single-row panoramas, by Tobias Hüllmandel.

Good user interface, providing good results. Some time-consuming calculations occur while editing.

Starting with good source images, good results can be achieved without many possibilities to interfere.

The Panorama Factory - a stitcher by Smoky City Design.

Wizard-based software, good results.

PanaVue Image Assembler - stitching software, by PanaVue.

i.Vista - a simple stitcher, by illisis.

Panorama Maker - a simple stitching program, by ArcSoft.

An easy, fancy-looking program. It's ok if you don't expect high quality.

Quite ambitious in automatically fitting the pieces, but with a strange user interface, producing poor results.
